I know, I know… We’ve been extremely busy and haven’t kept up with the SWOTW, but I promise we’ll update this section more often.

Dedicación
(de-dee-ka-ción)

Dedication

Translation:
devotion, commitment, allegiance, loyalty.

Sample Sentence:
“Fernando es un atleta que ha logrado bastante a base de mucha dedicación”
“Fernando has accomplished a lot as an athlete due to his high level of dedication”

Our SWOTW feature was out for a while but we’re glad to be back and here we go:

Diafragma
(deea-freag-moa)

Diaphragm

Translation:
Muscular partition separating the thorax from the abdomen in mammals.

Sample Sentence:
“Para poder cantar bien, la voz tiene que resonar en el diafragma”
“In order to sing well, the voice has to reverb through the diaphragm”

Notice how both words are written. Pronunciation is similar.

Ohhh well, certainly these are troubled financial times. And today’s spanish word of the week is a familiar one.

Caos
(cow-os)

Chaos

Translation:
Undefined state suposed to preceed the order of the cosmos. Confusion or disorder. Unpredictable and erratic behavior of some dinamic systems.

Sample sentence:
“En ese pequeño pais de Africa reina el caos y parece que no va a cambiar”
“That small African country is ruled by chaos and it seems that is not going to change”

The word has a similar conjugation in both languages. It’s used to denote “dramatic” state of disorder.

So, we start today’s word of the week segment of our blog by welcoming back all students. Summer’s over and you all know what that means…… back to work!

Today’s word of the week is:
Fungir
(phoon-heer)

Translation
To exercise a position or job

Sample sentence:
Mi tío Jorge empezará a fungir como secretario de nuestra organización el próximo martes.

Uncle George will start to exercise as our organization’s secretary next tuesday.

Notice how “fungir” is specifically descriptive of the verb “ejercer” or to exercise. Remember that Spanish is so broad that there’s many approved words that describe the same thing.

Crustáceo

Translation

Crustacean

Sample Sentence:
Cuando fuimos de vacaciones al mar rojo, nos impresionó mucho la gran diversidad de crustáceos que vimos por doquier.

When we went on vacation to the red sea, we were impressed by the large diversity of crustacean that we saw all over the place.

It’s wonderful to finally have a blog.
Hopefully this will be the start of something unique.

We understand that it’s not easy being a student and that more resources are needed to foment and improve the learning process.

We’ve been offering our world-recognized Spanish Homework Help for High School and College (Grad and UnderGrad) students for years and now our Translations division has been in full throttle and ready to kick start the new school cycle.
